Inspired by Bauhaus, US jazz and traditional Japanese aesthetics, Ikko Tanaka (1930 - 2002) remains one of the most influential Japanese graphic designers. The presentation is dedicated to the theme of the face in Tanaka’s posters. Resembling a gallery of beauties, faces parade in radical geometrical abstraction, with calligraphic expressivity, or captured on photographs, emblematic, alienated, as unreadable masks, surreal. Sublimely seductive or theatrically tantalizing, all of these faces want to attract the viewer’s attention.
